Smart Segments are dynamic contact groups that automatically update based on criteria you define. Unlike static lists, segments update in real time as contacts match (or stop matching) your rules.

How Smart Segments Work

You set criteria, and DropTrack automatically includes any contact who matches. For example:

  • "Contacts who listened to my last campaign" - activity-based
  • "Contacts located in California" - attribute-based
  • "Contacts who downloaded but didn't leave feedback" - combined criteria

Creating a Smart Segment

  1. Go to Contacts and click Smart Segments.
  2. Click Create Segment.
  3. Define your criteria using the available filters:
    • Activity-based: Opened, listened, downloaded, gave feedback, skipped, on a specific campaign
    • Attribute-based: Location, genre, company, contact list membership
  4. Combine multiple criteria to narrow your audience.
  5. Name your segment and save.

Using Segments in Campaigns

When creating a campaign, select a smart segment as your recipient group - just like you would a contact list. The segment will automatically include all contacts who match your criteria at send time.

Example Use Cases

  • Follow up with engaged contacts: Segment contacts who listened to your last campaign and send them a follow-up with new music.
  • Re-engage cold contacts: Segment contacts who haven't opened any campaign in the last 3 months and send a re-intro.
  • Geographic targeting: Send a tour announcement only to contacts in specific cities.
